About

Selma Archer

Selma Archer has Juris Doctorate and Master of Business Administration degrees from Rutgers University.

While in law school, her writing and analytical abilities earned her a seat on the school’s Law Journal and two American Jurisprudence Awards.

She received one of the awards for her legal research and writing skills and the other for her trial advocacy skills. Selma has additionally earned Executive Leadership certifications from Harvard Business School, UCLA Graduate School of Management, and the Thunderbird International Consortium.

Her legal background includes working as a legal associate in a large Wall Street law firm, as well as in a small New Jersey employment and labor law boutique firm. Her employment law experiences allowed her to build her expertise in assisting employers in avoiding litigation pitfalls and identifying opportunities to strengthen workplace policies to improve employee satisfaction and engagement.

Her legal career also includes her tenure as Legal Counsel to a New Jersey governor where she held oversight for the Department of Labor and the Department of Human Services. Partnering with state commissioners, agencies, and concerned constituent groups, she developed and implemented programs to improve community services for disadvantaged people across the state. Most notably, she led a Mental Health Committee tasked with developing and promoting initiatives to meet the growing demands for mental health support and resources.

She has been honored by both the YMCA and the National Urban League for her perseverance and commitment to community service.  Selma’s business background includes heading the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion departments for several large, global organizations. A significant part of her work involved employee relations. She proactively implemented initiatives to promote a more open corporate culture and facilitated relationships between employees and the company.

For the past several years, she has focused on employee relations consulting as well as caregiver advocacy. Having served many years (10+) as a family caregiver for her mother, Selma is well-versed in the many aspects of caring for an aging, disabled loved one. She had to juggle her full-time work responsibilities while caring for her mother from a long distance. As her mother’s health gradually declined, she spent more and more time locally caring for her, until her mother passed away in 2017. Selma currently lives in California with her family.
